Review of Peter Mark’s Hairdressing

Good hairdressing in Cork

Since moving to Cork just over 4 years ago, I’ve tried a fair number of hairdressers: D’Arcy’s Design on Paul Street, Leonard’s in Douglas, Toni & Guy’s in Washington St and Devine in Wilton. Whilst all have been fine, none have grabbed me enough to make me want to return repeatedly. What I want when I go to the hairdressers is a stylist who’s ready to advise me. After all, they’re the professionals. I want a haircut that suits my face shape and makes me feel fabulous and gorgeous. Ok, ok, I’m asking for alot I don’t want someone who just faffs about and just basically trims my hair or gives me the latest fad style which probably doesn’t suit me. I’m not an expert in haircolour or styles so I go to the hairdresser to provide this service. I really hate salons where it seems to take bloody ages to blow dry my hair, its short, it shouldn’t take an hour or where I’m left waiting for the stylist to juggle multiple appointments. Last Saturday, on the advice of my sister in law, I headed to Peter Mark’s in Mahon Point to get my hair coloured and cut. I had made the appointment earlier in the week at which stage, I was required to have my skin tested to ensure I wasn’t allergic to the hair colourants. The salon is bright and located in the middle of the Mahon Point shopping centre so parking is free and no problem. Simone was my stylist. I thought she was great. Chatty but not in a “shut up, you’re doing my head in” fashion. She was brilliant in advising me what hair colour would suit. The dye application was carried out by a junior but I wasn’t left sitting hanging around at any stage. I left the styling to Simone and she suggested a haircut she thought would suit my face shape and lifestyle. The result of which I am very happy with. Numerous offers of coffee and magazines were made, the service was great and efficient. I wasn’t left waiting at any stage. The cost was approximately €80. I’ll be back the next time I need a haircut.

I am a trainee hairdresser, i have just completed my first year, not saying im a pro or anything but i know my basics.
Having been advised go to Peter Mark’s (wilton) i did so, and boy was i shocked leaving the salon.
Upon entering the salon nobody offered to take my belongings, i had to keep them by my feet and haul them around with me when i was required to attend the basin. Also I was not offered tea/coffee.
What i required from the salon was a full mesh of blonde and brown, the colours being applyed to my hair were never discussed with me only to have the stylist approach me (after leaving me sit and wait ten minutes) with a colour chart and say these are the colours i will be applying to your hair.
Once the service finally went underway it took the stylist THREE hours to apply the colour (5.30-8.30),during this period the stylist seemed very fustrated even in the middle of it while trying to detangle my hair saying J**** C*****, i myself was boling at that stage, need i say??
But putting myself in the trainee stylists position i was doing my up-most best to keep myself from running out the door(mesh and all)!!!
When we got to rinsing out my colour, i was asked “Ah Do you still require your hair to be cut??”, that to me suggested that she did not want to cut my hair, and at this stage it was 8.40pm and the salon closed at 9, it would have been some cut, so i told her no just blast dry it and let that be that…
To top it all they required the same price i had been quoated at the start, even though i got no cut or blowdry..
Never Go to this salon no matter how good your told it is.
Seems to me they have there name well established and just dont give a crap……
Id have been better off at a dog grooming parlour, I know this seems harsh but O.M.F.G!!!
I left the salon in tears with a burnt head of hair….. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!
