Im another dumb woman ! I wanted to save 10 % and did it, I sign this form. After 1 hour I tried to cancel everything - and then of course everything which was very easy - now became very complicated. The worse is that at the til point nobody said this is credit card ! Im so stupid ! Tomorrow Im going first to customer service, then I'll write the letter to Santande/Abbey. And maybe in the good mood they will cancel my card without giving me trouble. wish me luck !

I too applied recently for a store card which I paid in full 2 weeks after that date. Anyway instead of a store card a mastercard arrived in the post. I rang to cancel and explained that I did not apply for a credit card and was told I had to put in writing to have it cancelled. I don't understand how they can just send you a credit card with €3000 limit without proof of salary etc. Anyway definitely not keeping it am warning everyone to make sure they don't sign up for one.

I have to agree with you all. They are an absolute NIGHTMARE! One missed payment (entirely my fault due to illness) and I must have received 20 phone calls in a week! Having explained this to them and ensuring that the money would be paid (which it was) I still persistently received calls every day.....and the same things said every time, they certainly are reading from a script. I'm soooo looking forward to clearing my balance with them

As one of the original comments to this post, I have to admit that I continue to be dismayed at the Debenham's Store Card... My own case was finally sorted out through using the Financial Ombudsman's Office. I sent copies of all of my documentation to the Ombudsman, G E Capital, and also to Ian Deegan (the store manager of the Henry Street branch). G E finally backed down, and all of the so called charges that had reappeared on my account were cancelled. The Ombudsman's office were VERY helpful, and Ian Deegan was dismayed by the mess. However, it is Debenham's in the UK that controls all of these financial matters, though he did send a 50 Euro gift voucher as a token gesture. I gave it to a friend as I wanted nothing more to do with Debenham's at that time.

Moving forward, I agree that there must be many happy Debenham's Card customers. But a quick search around the Internet reveals that the people posting on here are not alone. There is a significant number of unhappy people, and so far Debenham's have not been responsive. What is now more concerning is the fact that people are being sold credit cards when they think that they are getting store cards. I know that I was offered a credit card but refused saying that I wanted only a store card. I suggest that those of you on here who have been "mis sold" write to Ian Deegan and outline that you have been missold a card, and that unless Debenham's sort it out that you will escalate it. If at all possible keep each other informed as a group making the case is always a stronger case than individuals.

So, I have to admit that I am now happy to pop in and out of Debenham's, pick up some stuff, and burst out laughing when I am offered a store card... Its such a shame that the staff don't get my joke :)

Ditto Abs, exact same thing happened to me yesterday. I thought I was opening a debenhams store card for the 10% off, however when I got home, I realised it was a credit card and that I had paid for my items with that card.

Any help with the best way of canceling the card immediately would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I opened a debenhams account yesterday and the sales person said that it was a store card and I could get 10% off. After I got home, I looked back on the form only to realise that it was a credit card and that I had paid for my items with that card.

Like many others, I didn't want to do this so what is my best course of action. Do I have to pay of the credit card first and if so do I have to pay the full amount or the price after the 10% discount and who do I pay it out to? Also, what is the best way of canceling the card and account? Will I have to pay any other fees or charges for any reason. Please help! Thanks.

I've had my card for nearly 2 years now, and no problems at all. As long as you pay in full every month, you aren't charged any interest and I just keep the card open for the money off vouchers etc.

If you've just opened one up, Mary, I wouldn't pay much heed to the scare stories here. For every scare story, there's probably about 200 satisfied people like me :)

Confused having read Carolines comment on 2nd July. Debenhams staff informed me before I even had chance to ask that NO GOV. LEVY was due on store cards. So I decided to go ahead only to be declined. How embarrasing. They dont tell you why. I have a credit card and flawless credit history so how in HELL can Debenhams/Santander decline me. They are doing themselves no favours by offering these cards and my impression of Debenhams has gone from good to bad.
