That and pull any weeds that grew over the winter / early spring under the tarped area. I hope it was worth it in the end? We just opted for the low tech solution of buying a standard big inflatable paddling pool and a couple of inflatable dolphins and seals to play with in it. He now has a flat area to place his pool on, he just makes sure to keep a tarp over top to prevent weeds growing.
